Electric pallet jacks are great for situations where a full forklift would be impractical, but a traditional pallet jack would be inefficient. They are small and easy to use without being inconvenient to store and maneuver. If you’d like some tips on how to find the ideal pallet jack for your needs, this guide from KMC Forklift is for you. 

Load Capacity

Electric pallet jacks vary in maximum load capacity from 2,000 lbs all the way to 8,000 lbs. Obviously, pushing a pallet jack beyond its limits is highly unsafe, and likely to result in harm to the jack, the cargo, and anyone nearby. On the other hand, more powerful electric pallet jacks are generally more expensive. The best strategy is to know how much you’ll need your pallet jack to be able to safely lift before you start shopping. It may be best to purchase an electric pallet jack that can handle just a bit more weight than you think will be necessary, just in case, though obviously you shouldn’t purchase a model that’s far more powerful than what you would realistically need. 

Fork Length

Fork length is also important. Using an electric pallet jack with forks that are too short will likely result in the cargo slipping off. On the other hand, longer forks are also more unwieldy. Take measurements of the pallets you use, along with how much space your pallet jack will have to maneuver. Consider rearranging your floor space if necessary. If you plan to purchase a stacker, make sure the forks can safely reach the maximum height they’ll need to reach. 

Battery 

Electric pallet jacks are powered by either wet-cell batteries or lithium-ion batteries. Wet-cell batteries are the cheaper option, though they also require more maintenance. Lithium-ion batteries are a bit more expensive, but they’re also more durable, requiring less maintenance and lasting longer overall.
